Copy And Paste Diagram Element

It is possible to copy one or more elements from an open diagram and paste them into a different diagram as either new elements or as links to the original elements.

Select the element(s) to copy.

Either:

  • Select the element(s) and the 'Layout > Diagram > Edit > Copy Selected Elements' ribbon option, or
  • Press Ctrl+C, or
  • Click on the 'Copy' icon () in the Default Tools toolbar

Open the diagram to paste into.

Either:

  • Click on the Paste button () in the Default Tools toolbar, or
  • Right-click on the diagram background to open the diagram context menu

Select either the 'Paste| Element(s) as New' menu option (completely new element) or the 'Paste | Element(s) as Link' menu option (reference to the original element).

Notes

  • The 'Date Created' and 'Time Created' parameters of a pasted-as-new element are set to the current date and time; the parameters for a linked element remain the same as the copied element
  • You can also move elements between diagrams by cutting the elements from one diagram and pasting them into another; to cut the selected elements, click on the Cut button () in the Default Tools toolbar
